Step 1: Prepare the sponge
- Wet the sponge: Hold the sponge under running water, letting it absorb water. For a dewier application, a damp sponge is ideal.
- Squeeze out excess water: Gently squeeze the sponge repeatedly to release excess water.
- Dampen, don't soak: The sponge should be damp but not dripping wet. You can also wrap it in a towel to absorb any remaining moisture.
Step 2: Apply makeup
- For a lighter finish (damp sponge): Dab a small amount of foundation onto the back of your hand or a clean surface, then dip the damp sponge into the product and apply it to your face by bouncing or tapping the sponge.
- For fuller coverage (dry sponge): A dry sponge is better for picking up more product and is recommended for cream or liquid formulas when you want a more matte, full-coverage finish.
- Use the right part of the sponge: Use the pointed tip for hard-to-reach areas like around the nose or eyes. Use the larger, rounded or flat side for blending larger areas of the face.
Step 3: Blend and set
- Blend: Gently bounce or tap the sponge across the skin to blend the product for a seamless, airbrushed look. Avoid swiping, which can cause streaking.
- Set: A dry sponge can also be used to lightly press powder over makeup in areas that tend to get oily, similar to a powder puff.
